Presentation of the 2008 results of the Social Observatory Road Transport

The Report of the Social Observatory of Road Transport corresponding to 2008 has been presented the day before yesterday at the headquarters of Development. The presentation was attended by members of the General Directorate of Road Transport, the General Directorate of Labor, the General Subdirectorate for Occupational Risk Prevention and the DGT.

Representatives of the different organizations of transporters of goods and travelers of the National Road Transport Committee, of the UGT and CCOO trade unions and of the Transport and Training Foundation have also been present at the ministerial headquarters.

According to Fenadismer, the most significant results in 2008 are the following:

- Hiring at the origin of drivers: there have been 500 hiring through the stable contingent in freight transport (it is only 10% compared to 2007). The main countries of origin have been Bulgaria and Ecuador.

- Issuance of certificates of drivers from third countries (outside the EU): there has been a decrease compared to 2007, with 11,383 driver certificates issued (2.42% less).

- Collective bargaining: based on the extension of the Interconfederal Agreement signed in 2007 between CEOE, CEPYME, UGT and CCOO. In the transport of goods, 19 new collective agreements have been signed and salary reviews have been carried out in 27. In passenger transport, 14 new collective agreements have been signed and 23 have been revised salary. The agreements include a safeguard clause (in all of them), a wage clause (57%) and a withdrawal clause for the driving license and accident policy (90%). Huelva presents the lowest base salary (574'82 euros / month) and Guipúzcoa the highest (1351'80 euros / month).

- Digital tachograph: in 2008, 128,501 tachograph cards were issued (20% less than in 2007). Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid and Valencia are the autonomies that have issued the most cards. The fleet of vehicles required to carry an analogue or digital tachograph is 509,884 vehicles (very similar to 2007). Of them, 467,469 merchandise and 42,415 travelers.

- The average of kilometers traveled, in international transport, the average traveled is similar for self-employed workers and companies (around 12,900 km.), Which represents an increase of 6% compared to the previous year. The average speed is 75 km / h. Surprisingly older vehicles (more than six years old) do more kilometers than new vehicles.
- Accident: in 2008 there were 43,831 accidents with victims, in 6,325 of them at least one transport vehicle was involved (that is, 14'43% of the total). In 450 accidents a fatality occurred when a transport vehicle was involved. Regarding the percentage of accidents, only 10% were driven by autonomous transporters and 89% by salaried drivers (as in previous years).
